DIAA Show

I have been a member of the Deer Isle Artists Association since last fall when I showed three woodcuts in its "Noah's Ark Revisited" group show. This summer I have six woodcuts and a pen-and-ink drawing in its "20/20" group show (August 23-September 7). Here is a mini show of the exhibit. Enjoy!

Gingersnap Woodblock Print

Gingersnap
7" X 9" woodblock print
2009

It took two blocks of wood and a sore shoulder from carving, but I finally got this cock-eared, wild-eyed, live-wire on paper.

In Memory of Smokie

Smokie
5" X 7" pen and ink
2009

"Smokie was a lovable cat with so much personality. Only about six. Too young to die. She would hear my boyfriend coming down the road and start making cooing noises. She'd jump up on the table until she saw him get out of the car and then jump down, run to meet him, hiding behind the door, while pretending she was there all the time. She'd always be on his lap or sitting by him as he worked on his laptop. My boyfriend is a cat lover (He has four of his own), but he was in love with Smokie. She died unexpectedly and we both are devastated."

It's stories like this about beloved pets that make what I do seem so worth while.

Dog Days Portraits & Tankas

Breezy

This dog's perfect day:
summit Cadillac Mountain
race up granite trails
lap rain water from a tarn
reign triumphant at the top

Sleeping Simon

This dog's perfect day:
take the ferry to Schoodic
fetch sticks from the sea
catch the last boat back again
her foot softening my dreams

Shingles

This dog's perfect day:
take it slow and oh so easy
Adirondack style
don't get your tail in a twist
sit still and savor summer

Sadie

This dog's perfect day:
find a long and sandy shore
herd the breaking waves
harry seagulls; harass crows
organize the elements

PenPets Goes Literary

This month's issue of Wife of Bath features a PenPets portrait on the cover, two more portraits inside, and a tanka poem.

Wife of Bath is one of Maine's newest literary magazines, just three issues old. It's edited and published by Raye Tibbetts of Bath, Maine. This month's theme is "Dog Days," the perfect venue for my work. It's chock full of lots of good doggy stuff.

If you'd like to order a copy of this issue ($5) or a yearly subscription ($25), please contact Raye at editor@wifeofbath.net or send her a check at 100 Front Street, Suite 31, Bath, ME 04530.
